What Jesus Said about Love

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one another._{John 15:13-17}

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life._{John 3:16}

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one to another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another._{John 13:34,35}

If ye love me, keep my commandments._John 14:15

Summary

Jesus gave us a new commandment that we love one another. He said that this would show the world that we are his discples. The Lord’s brother James called this the ‘royal law’. John the disciple who loved Jesus said, behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed on us!
